When it first opened in 1860, this family-friendly hotel was one of the largest in Sweden. Today this 135-room hotel is one of the oldest. It was carefully renovated in 2008 with many of the original details left intact, such as the Hall of Mirrors; one of the most beautiful banquet halls in Scandinavia. The restaurant Le Trottoir and the pub, The Bishop's Arms, are popular meeting places. The hotel's modern conference facilities are equipped with the latest technology. The hotel lobby features a 24-hour reception and check-out service, newspaper stand, currency exchange facilities, hotel safe and lift access. Other amenities include complimentary wireless Internet access, and for an additional fee, room service, laundry services, as well as car parking and bicycle rentals.
The restaurant is an elegant large area resembling a banquet room. Furnishings are fairly ornate with floral designs on the walls to add to the old style decor.
It is a traditional looking building with high imposing cream walls.
The lobby area is small, although it does stretch out to provide some seating. There is also a bar which is very popular with locals at the weekends. As with most of the hotel, there is a feeling of space with high ceilings and a characteristic lived in look.
