About Turin

Turin, capital of the Italian Piemonte, is surrounded by the magnificent scenery of the Alps, on the shores of the River Po. Historically, the city has been known for its industrial image (it was called the capital of the engines) but it has managed to reinvent itself as a new technology and innovation oriented city. Moreover, after the Winter Olympics, the city has undergone a great makeover that has highlighted its most interesting and attractive side.

Moving around

The city has a subway line and several tram and bus lines so you can move around easily. There's also the option of renting a bike and ride with it through the many bike lanes in the center of the city, or the most economical and authentic choice, which is to explore Turin on foot.

Out & About

The famous Mole Antonelliana has become the symbol of the city and, thanks to its size, it can be seen from everywhere. It houses the National Museum of the Cinema.

The Egyptian Museum is the second largest in the world after the one in Cairo. It's located in Via Accademia delle Scienze, along with the Galleria Sabauda.

In Piazza Castello you will be face to face with the Duomo that houses the Capella della Sindone, or Chapel of the Shroud, where the Shroud is stored. Usually, a replica is shown and the original is displayed only every 25 years.

To admire the best views of the city, you have to climb to the Basilica of Superga. To do this, take the tram in Piazza Modena, in the city center, to reach the top of the hill on the outskirts of Turin.

Also it's worth visiting the Mercato di Porta Palazzo where the time flies walking between the stalls.

What's cooking?

It's impossible to leave without having tasted a delicious chocolate, typical of the city. Among the specialties of chocolate are the gianduiotti, Piemonte hazelnuts with chocolate.

The typical and famous vermouth was born here in Turin, and you can enjoy it in one of the many bars of Piazza Vittorio Veneto and Piazza Savoia.
