The food and service is excellent.Specialties are bacalhau and pickled peixinhnos. Alijo, the town, produces a good and fruity moscatel wine which is not widely known and is most fervently recommended.

The pousada acquired its name from a young man by the name of Barao Forrester (1809-1862), who also plays an important part in the history of port. He was a cartographer and artist and was a purist in his desire to keep port as a wine unfortified by brandy. In the Pousada there is a drawing room, a central dining room with mirrored doors, a card room on the lower garden level as well as a bar with a wonderful collection of port.

Departureing from Oporto Airport: Head North, turn right, turn left and once again turn right to Travessa do Barreiro. Continue along to Travessa do Barreiro, converge with VRI Matosinhos/Oporto/A4, Enter A4 highway, continue along IP4 (Bragança/IP4/Vila Real), exit the highway, continue along, turn left to National Road EN15/N15; continue along, turn right at National Road EN212/N212. Continue along; At the roundabout, take the 1st exit to Dr. Cesar Ferreira Street; Continue through Comendador Jose Rufino Street.
