About Fuerteventura

The most easterly of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is an island with vast plains where silence and tranquility reign. The island is the perfect place to disconnect from everything and dive into a kind of dreamlike almost surreal environment with its stunning scenery, dunes and palm groves. Fuerteventura is the turquoise of its waters, the white of the sand and the ocher color of the inland.

Moving around

The regular lines of buses are called guaguas and they allow you to travel between the different villages of the island. There's also the option of renting a car to move around more freely and you can even bring your own car by boat.

Out & About

In Fuerteventura, the star of the island is the spectacular natural scenery. The dunes of Corralejo, north of the island, are miles and miles of sand contrasting with the deep blue sea and sky. In the island called Isla de Lobos only lives the lighthouse keeper but it's the perfect place for diving. This island is separated from the town of Corralejo by a narrow strip of sea. Here you will find beautiful white sand beaches and you can practice all kinds of water sports. In the south of the island is Jandía where most of the hotels are concentrated. Its beaches are practically untouched. In Sotavento, Barlovento and Cofete it will be just you and nature. In the villages of La Antigua, Tuineje or Betancuria you can admire castles and towers, remains of the ancient inhabitants of the island. The volcano Tindaya is also an interesting place to visit because it's one of the most characteristic areas of the island. Morro Jable is a southern fishing village where you can enjoy fishing and other water sports.

What's going on in

As in the rest of the archipelago, the Carnival has great importance. The dates of celebration vary but they are between February and March. Besides the carnival, each town has its own patron saint festivities, full of tradition and different activities.

Shopping

In all municipalities of the island, you can buy handicraft products of Fuerteventura. Street stalls are usually organized around the island and there you will find all kinds of original objects.

What's cooking?

Fuerteventura's landscape is arid and it rarely rains, the cuisine of the island has had to adapt to this shortage of water so that the base of its cooking is goat and fish. Here you can enjoy many different and delicious fish. In addition to the typical dishes of the islands, as the sancocho canario (Canarian stew) or the papas arrugás con mojo (wrinkled potatoes with mojo), some of the highlights are the cheese majorero which is made with goat milk following traditional methods.

Weather

The island has an average temperature of 21º thanks to a combination of the cool winds and the warm winds of the Sahara desert.

So...

Let yourself be rocked by the sound of the wind and the waves in this oasis in the middle of the ocean and admire the most spectacular natural landscapes.
