How to arrive
Hightway A6 (Bilbao-Santander) is the best way if you are coming from eastern or south-eastern Spain.
The hightway S20 (Bezana-Santander) is a branch of the Autovía del Norte which enters to the north of the city and ends at El Sardinero.
N-611 (Palencia-Santander) is the simplest way to get here from Central Spain. Also safer if the weather is bad.
N-623 (Burgos-Santander) crosses El Escudo port, on the border between Burgos and Cantabria. Complicated when there is ice or fog.
N-634 (Irún-La Coruña) is the only major road from provinces bordering Cantabria to the west.
